Warrenton, VA - Leslie Cockburn released the following statement today: 

“I have the highest respect for our armed forces and veterans. Every day, the men and women in uniform who protect and defend our nation, as well as our veterans, including Denver Riggleman, who served so willingly, earn our lasting support and care. 

In Congress, I will fight to stop the Trump Administration’s effort to privatize the Veterans Administration. I will work to improve VA services and transportation. I will join those in Congress working to streamline communication between the DOD and the VA, so that veterans’ medical records are electronically transferred and veterans automatically enrolled. I will support the government-managed TRICARE health system and expand veterans’ business, farming and outreach programs. I will support veterans in need of treatment and therapy for sexual assault as well as treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries. Too many veterans are not getting adequate mental health treatment. Twenty veterans commit suicide every day and only 15 percent of them use the VA.

I look forward to the final weeks of the election season, and am committed to focusing my campaign on the issues that matter to Virginia’s 5th District.”
